Today is my sister's birthday which means I've been running around for the last few days trying to think of a way to make it special. In the days before moving to Granny's that usually consisted of getting up early and making scones with tea and setting out the china. In this new situation I was really at a loss. Finally, I thought of getting some muffins from MiMi's Cafe! I stopped there last night for their honey Bran Muffins (which are amazing) and some
limited time only Lemon Cream Cheese muffins. I made sure I told my sister about the muffins when normally I'd let that be a surprise, but I wanted her to look forward to them too. This morning I got up and looked forward to our breakfast of espresso and muffins. However, this morning I got up and instead I found Granny eagerly waiting at the table with a piece of the Strawberry Cake at each of the three place settings. I could have cried! (In Strawberry Cake part 1 you know the problem, but let it be known this cake is also now 6 days old.) It didn't look like we'd manage to escape eating eating the six day old Strawberry Cake with Strawberry Icing, with Walnuts sprinkled on top made with expired cake mix, expired frosting, and expired eggs today.
Granny seemed to be quite excited for my sister's birthday and complained that she's wasn't up yet, (8:30 Saturday morning) in fact, she mentioned wanting to go wake her up. Part of me thought it was cute, while the other part was annoyed, especially since my sister has had very long exhausting days all week. Well, Granny got tired of waiting for the Birthday girl so she decided to light the birthday candle. And by "the" birthday candle I mean one solitary candle sitting in the middle of the table. This candle is special and has been around for about 20 years. It's special because when you light the candle it plays Happy Birthday. So she lit it, it played Happy Birthday and then she blew it out. I guess the celebration is all that matters, not who the honoree is and whether or not they're in the room. Eventually my sister came downstairs and Granny went through the whole process again, so that the birthday girl could blow out the candle and then eat some cake for breakfast.
Happy Birthday Sis!

Thank you for enduring all that just so we can get a laugh. Hilarious.
