This blog began by posting about some of the random things I've encountered. When the blog began I didn't realize how much would come just from living with my now 88 year old Granny.

Strawberry Cake?
I came downstairs this morning to find Granny eating cake for her mid-morning snack (it was 9am). She made the cake yesterday. I mean she opened the Strawberry cake mix box and added the ingredients called for, baked it, then opened the tub of Strawberry icing and smeared it on top of the cake. She followed that with sprinkling walnuts on top! She certainly was in high heaven eating that cake this morning! She made sure to let me know that I could help myself to it. I decided to wait until after dinner to try some of her strawberry cake concoction. So this evening after Granny had gone outside I decided to try a sample of the cake; so I knew whether or not I should accept a piece. I snuck into her fridge and tried to discretely cut some of the cake and give it a try. All the while listening intently for the jingle of the door. I took one small taste and realized it wasn't edible, it tasted like Play Dough! I quickly put the lid on it and back into the fridge it went before she came in. I was contemplating how I was going to turn down the cake while I made dinner. Since Granny had eaten earlier, she was still outside tootling around and my sister and I discussed how we were going to manage to get out of this situation. Not wanting to hurt granny's feelings we tried to come up with a solution. I decided I would hide two pieces in the trash and tell her we'd already had some while she was out. So while Granny was still outside, I quickly snuck to the back porch and took out the 9x13 pan of strawberry cake, put it on the dryer and scooped out two large pieces. I put one in the outbound trash bag the other I quickly ran over to my sister for her to have a bite of it. She took one little taste, wrinkled her nose and then I tossed it into the bag along with the other piece. That way we didn't have to lie about actually having some of the cake. I of course offered to take the trash to the curb for tomorrow's pickup.

Wow, Bekah, that sounds terribly tempting... so glad you found away out of it, though I'm sure your gran is happy not to have to share it (more for breakfast, right!)
