It probably has something to do with the thriftiness Granny acquired living through the depression. As children we were required to save our brown lunch bag and the wax paper that was used to wrap the sandwich and cookies. They would be recycled for the next three days. In her quest to keep the globe green Granny now edits return mailing labels. You know, those free ones that come from Easter Seals, the Veteran's Association and the Art Linkletter Foundation. They never seem to get the Mr. and Mrs., first name, middle initial, or last name right. So out comes the whiteout, and a bic pen in the appropriate color. The label is cropped, trimmed, and edited to perfection. I offered to custom make some labels to her liking on my computer. "No," was her response. I have all these others to use up first. I think to myself, "Does she know the depression is over?" -Son (rj's Dad)

I've had the pleasure of being enlisted to white-out hundreds of labels and write her name over it. -rj

THAT'S funny.
White out can get expensive too! My in-laws save to-go cups from fast food restaurants AND the containers that KFC Mashed Potatos and Gravy come in! TRUE STORY! EWWW...like I would put my leftovers in THAT (good thing I HATE leftovers)!
My inlaws always top off or refill their cups after eating at a fast food restaurant, whether they are still thirsty or not. That's not as funny but I think it's weird.
